Support Cuts

How people with Differences could be badly affected

Article by Keith Mckenzie

Due to economics status , many organisations round the world through the public, private and voluntary sectors has to cut back to reduce the global deficit.

In may countries like in the Uk public services are forces scale back much more. This is not just about job losses and cutting budgets but also the services many people relay on every day. There could be a danger that people with Differences and in-particular people with moderate difficulties and creation mental related disorders or conditions could be wrong penalised and could be wrongly punished.

What does not help. Due to the state of the society many people do regard people with moderate difficulties as a automatic burden and a nuisance, even if it not their fault. There is also some resentment when certain parts of society for certain people access some support and thinks that the support should be taken away and be toughened up in relation to employment, social housing as well as other parts of life, Individual with differences need to understand that we are living in an increasing intolerant society this is part of the disposable culture especially in the UK

In the UK many changes are being planned to the welfare system and to social housing. This could affect people with differences which could lead to damaging consequences.

Social Care associated with Social Workers
Adult Social Care are being reduced due to the local authorities across England and elsewhere in the UK have to make savings as part of the national government taking control of the financial deficit in the UK. Individual with moderate Leaning Disabilities and people who face hidden difficulties who likely to have the support taken away. If they want to maintain their independent lives they will now be forced to more self sufficient without any form of help or assistance.

Social Housing changes
Many Individuals with learning disabilities are currently not likely be in employment. (due to possibilities with lack of support & understanding or people disabilities are simply excluded due not meeting the demanding and in some cases unrealistic expectations of employability)

As part of the changes unemployed people must make progress into employment whether the have a learning disability or not. Unless the right support and exceptions are included to address this issue then this could mean people with moderate difficulties could be more likely to evicted and lose their independence. This will also means to be forced to face a never ending instability in their lives.

In extreme situations individuals mentioned could loose their independent identity and be forced to either live at a relative homes, or will have living specialist support homes which can lead to negative stigma and prejudice.

Other Support related cutbacks
Public service cuts could affect support services such as police, there could be other consequences. This could lead to be more increasing discriminations, bullying and other form of hate related crime. If there be no form of assistance and support them many people with differences could be forced to be excluded out of society completely and by no choice. This could leads to high numbers of depression and despair.

Reality check options
Unless there are any exceptions or an individuals circumstances are taken in consideration, there will be three demanding options

1 An individual must cope better and have better progress in to employment quicker without support.

2 Loose their independence by live with a relative or a support home.

3 Face being completely excluded into mental institutions if a someone cannot personally cope with difficulties without any personal support.

Overall this could lead to major divide between the majority or don't have difficulties for individuals. With the old fashioned attitude towards people with moderate learning disabilities to be seen and not heard or not to be seen at all.
